Alberta sees a scary future in a coal
The whole world is trying to push away from fossil fuels but in our home province of Alberta, our premier decided to roll back protections that restricted the exploration and prevented open pit coal mining across the foothills of our province earlier this spring.
I understand the Alberta economy has been hurting for years due to our oil and gas infrastructure slowly deteriorating. But kick starting another boom and bust coal industry isn't going to help the health and longevity of our natural resources and already declining fish populations.
Its not rocket science, it doesn't make sense to destroy a non renewable resource just to mine another non renewable resource. While taking out 1000 sq km of forest water ways and grass lands. Ultimately endangering trout populations and other species within the surrounding waters. All for the benefit of "our economy" while an Australian company is contracted to do the mining...
